PM Erdoğan Sues out Compensation Fine from Kurdish Politician
Politician Kaplan was convicted of an "attack of the personal rights" of Prime Minister Erdoğan and has to pay TL 6,000 in compensation. Kaplan announced to appeal and go as far as the ECHR if necessary: "My words remained within the limits of freedom of thought", he claimed.

Court of Appeals Insisted on Compensation Fine for Orhan Pamuk
The Court of Appeals insisted on a compensation fine for writer Pamuk after a local court had dropped procedures twice. Pamuk has to pay a fine of TL 6,000 in total because of a statement made to a Swiss newspaper in 2005.

Four years after the murder of Turkish-Armenian journalist Dink, the Istanbul 10th Administrative Court handed down a TL 100,000 fine in compensation to the Ministry of the Interior on the grounds that the police failed to protect Dink.

Journalist Kütahyalı Sentenced upon Deputy's Complaint
An Istanbul Court handed down a monetary fine of TL 14,000 in compensation to journalist Kütahyalı from Taraf newspaper. The journalist was sentenced because he called Republican People's Party deputy Arıtman the "racist-fascist CHP deputy from Izmir".

Kurdish Singer Was Granted 10 Percent of Compensation Claim
Journalist Turgut received a monetary fine of TL 10,000 in compensation because of his comment "I would kidnap her and make her my sex slave" about Kurdish singer Rojin. Lawyer Kılıç criticized the low amount and declared to file an appeal.

Turkey Sentenced for Book Seizure Requested by Singer Tarkan
The European Court of Human Rights unanimously imposed a € 3,000 monetary fine on Turkey for the seizure of the book "Tarkan, the Star Phenomenon". Publisher Sapan will receive € 2,000 in compensation. The book features singer Tarkan as an example for an academic study.

ECHR Convicted Turkey of Extrajudicial Killings
The European Court of Human Rights convicted Turkey based on extrajudicial killings by the police. Turkey was sentenced to a € 103,000 fine for "violating the right to life" regarding the killing of an innocent bystander during a police raid of a private home.
