Scores of Militants, Troops Die in Clashes in Hakkari
Two specialist sergeants died and one soldier was injured after members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) detonated a roadside bomb in the southeastern province of Hakkari. Another troop and 15 PKK militants also lost their lives during a military operation in the area.

The Governor’s Office in the southeastern province of Hakkari announced the end of some of the most fierce clashes in recent times between government forces and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK,) but villagers displaced by the conflict are unwilling to return back to their homes for fear of more violence to come.

141 Official Arrests and 2 Detentions after 2 Days of Clashes
According to information obtained from the Contemporary Lawyers Association, most of the protestors detained during the demonstrations against IMF and World Bank were assaulted in police vehicles. Many people sustained bruises and swellings. 27 people arrested on the second day were still not released although 24 hours had already elapsed.

The Police interfered with tear gas and tinted water when members of the Alliance Against IMF-WB tried to gather in the district of Pangaltı. 25 people were arrested. Clashes occured between the demonstrators and the police.
