Parliament Speaker Cemil Çiçek rejected a proposal by opposition People’s Republican Party (CHP) deputy Hüseyin Aygün to open a “cem house” (Alevi house of worship) in Parliament, citing a “fatwa” (religious decree) issued by the Directorate of Religious Affairs.

Water Bills Issued in English but not in Kurdish
Deputy Prime Minister Çiçek remarked that signs in both languages, Turkish and Kurdish, can be put up at the market stalls, whereas a municipality is not allowed to issue their water bills in Kurdish. At the same time, the Didim Municipality offers services in English.

Students Refused Deputy Prime Minister to Talk on Human Rights
Students protested Deputy Prime Minister Çiçek who was going to speak on human rights at the Ankara University Faculty of Political Science. The students voiced their protest, "The minister of such a country has nothing to say about this topic". When the students received support from the people in the hall, Çiçek left the university without giving his speech.
