Turkey’s Migration Authority has announced that “45 foreign nationals who shared provocative posts” where they ate bananas in protest against a person targeting Syrians in a street interview have been sent to Removal Centers to be deported.

Having reported on the ‘banana-eating videos’ of Syrian people in protest against the targeting remarks of a citizen in a street interview, journalist Majed Shamaa, who was sent to a removal center to be deported from Turkey, has been released.

Taken into custody, eight people have been referred to the provincial migration authority to be deported as “foreign persons who threaten the public order and security”.

The Peoples’ Democratic Party has denounced the decision to deport the Syrians who shared videos of themselves while eating bananas: “While the war is still ongoing, migrants cannot be left for death by using the ‘banana-eating videos’ as an excuse.”
