The Kurdish Workers Party (PKK) corroborates the report by the General Staff regarding the Aktütün assault that there was no neglect, but denies that they were not successful.

Commander of the 2nd Army Koşaner announced that the Armed Forces had no fault in the Aktütün assault of the Kurdish Workers Party (PKK), in which 17 soldiers were killed. Koşaner repeated the claim that the pictures that appeared in the media were incorrect.

The General Staff announced that the photographs published in daily Taraf in connection with PKK’s Aktütün assault did not belong to the assault area. Taraf had claimed they had showed that the assault was known ahead of time.

The General Staff Military Court has placed a ban on publishing news about the Aktütün assault on the grounds that there was an investigation for those who leaked confidential documents and such activities “might violate the secrecy of the investigation.”

Professor Ahmet Insel says government’s stepping aside and letting the General Staff face the public and the media is not an acceptable behavior in democracies.
