Last night, several demonstrations across Turkey were held to to commemorate Ahmet Atakan - a METU Resistance protestor who died on Monday night. Police response came in the form of tear gas and water cannons.

Tensions climbed in the southern province of Hatay as police attacked those who attended Ahmet Atakan’s funeral and left Aycan Karaalioğlu severely injured. Police violence spread across Turkey, especially in Mersin, Antalya, Çanakkale, Ankara and Izmir.

“There is no evidence that supports Ahmet Atakan’s death with fall. How does the governor know his cause of death?” said Hatay Chamber of Medicines Chairman Selim Matkap after attending METU Resistance protestor Ahmet Atakan’s autopsy early this morning.
