Anti-Terror Law Took the Lead in 2010
The BİA 2010 Annual Media Monitoring Report claims that 220 people, among them 104 journalists, were tried for the opinions they voiced in words and writing in 2010. Penalties handed down by the ECHR were on the rise as well as domestic convictions under the Anti-Terror Law. 30 journalists were in jail.

15,200 Files against Turkey Pending at ECHR
In 2010, a total of 15,200 applications filed against Turkey were pending before the European Court of Human Rights. Only Russia has more files pending. Turkey is the country with the highest number of convictions regarding violations of rights at the ECHR.

46 Women Killed for "Honour" in 2010
According to a report of the Human Rights Association, 46 women were killed by men in 2010 for reasons of "honour". 281 women and children applied to courts because of sexual harassment; 182 women and children were raped.

The 2010 report of the Committee to Protect Journalists criticized punishments handed down to Turkish journalists on the grounds of their reports about the Kurdish question or the Ergenekon case. The report also drew attention to the slow procedures of the Dink murder case.

Turkey Takes the Lead in Europe in Violations in 2010
Turkey ranks first among the number of countries convicted for rights violations by the European Court of Human Rights in 2010. Russia is on second position of the list of 47 countries. Main reasons for Turkey's convictions were the fairness or the length of trials.

Judicial Front Runners: Special Authority Courts in Diyarbakır
Three Special Authority High Criminal Courts in Diyarbakır occupy the top three places regarding the number of files decided throughout the past year in Turkey. These courts try important cases such as the KCK trial or the Hezbollah case. They handed prison sentences of several hundred years to Kurdish journalists.

Turkey Fails in Human Rights
The Human Rights Association (İHD) issued the Human Rights report 2010 for Turkey and graded the country with "0". İHD Istanbul Branch President Boğa said that a total of 480 people applied to the association during the past year because of rights violations.

Equality Report: Once More a Confession of Failure for Turkey
The women's organization KA.DER issued the third "Report on the Representation of Gender Equality in Turkey". Turkey, "still resisting to gender equality on the 100th anniversary of the World Women's Day on 8 March", gained zero credits in the 2010 report.
