A child worker whose head was squeezed between the fright lift and the wall lost his life in Altındağ, Ankara.
13-year-old A.A. from Syria was squeezed between the lift and the wall in the furniture cutting shop on Karpuzlu-1 Avenue, while materials were carried downstairs using the freight lift.
Police and health teams coming to the spot found that the child worker had died.
An investigation has been started into the event.
"Child labor on the rise"
At least 888 child workers were killed on the job since 2013 in Turkey according to the statement issued by the Health and Safety Labor Watch (İSİG) on June 12, World Day Against Child Labor.
Murat Çakır from the İSİG Council told Hikmet Adal from bianet in an interview that "Neither measures are taken for child workers under the age of 15 who cannot work according to the laws. nor any steps are taken for the child workers to continue their education. On the contrary, child labor is on the rise every year."
TurkStat, the Turkish Statistical Institute, on the other hand, has announced the rate of participation of children aged 15-17 in labor force as 18,7 percent. This figure was 16,4 last year. (AÖ/PE)
