'Sixty-six people offered, threatened to become informants this year'

Between January and November, at least 66 people were offered or threatened to become "informants," according to a new report by the Human Rights Association.

These offers and threats were made in detention centers, prisons or other places, the association said.

Thirteen people were kidnapped and released without any formal procedure, according to the report.

Also, 65 people were threatened for political reasons, mostly by law enforcement officers, said the report. Twelve people were threatened on social media.

The threatened people included political party members, university students, press members and children.

Such practices have become more common after the July 2016 coup attempt and following the period of state of emergency, noted the İHD.

Complaints about these issues are not investigated effectively and the "general policy of impunity" is applied in such applications, it said. (AS/VK)
