A main opposition party lawmaker has claimed that people close to the ruling party have started receiving the Covid-19 vaccine.
Turkey has agreed with China to import 50 million doses of CoronaVac, a vaccine developed by the Sinovac company and is still in the third trial phase.
However, the price of the vaccines and other details of the contract have not been made public by the authorities.
Republican People's Party (CHP) deputy Murat Emir said today (December 9) that vaccines were brought to Turkey 10 days ago by the Keymen İlaç company and people close to the government started receiving vaccines secretly.
"For days, we have been asking how the vaccine will come, the details of the contract and the price of the vaccine," said Emir.
"The ministry was pretending to inform the public but was not giving any information and was running the process behind closed doors," he said. "Now it's revealed why the ministry was running the process behind closed doors."
The Ministry of Health started vaccinating health workers and volunteers last month.
Minister Fahrettin Koca said last week that they planned to start general vaccination this month.
He had noted that 10 to 20 million vaccine doses would be procured in December, along with 20 million doses in January and another 10 million in February. (EMK/VK)
