Released from detention to house arrest in early January, Muhammed Eren Sütçü, who launched a knife and armed attack against the İstanbul Bahçelievler District Office of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), was arrested today (January 10) upon the prosecutor's appeal.
As reported by Mezopotamya Agency (MA), the prosecutor's office lodged an appeal against Sütçü's release to house arrest. Upon this appeal, the assailant has been arrested. However, as there is a confidentiality order, the content of the file or the reason for the arrest is unknown.
What happened?
On December 28, 2021, Muhammed Eren Sütçü launched a knife and armed attack on the İstanbul Bahçelievler District Organization Office of the HDP, wounding Ramazan Dışarı and Aziz Şimşek.
The party members tried to stop the assailant who then fled to a nearby bakery. The police came to the scene of the incident afterwards and took the assailant into custody. Assailant Sütçü was taken to the İstanbul Security Directorate on Vatan Avenue in Fatih district.
A confidentiality order was imposed on the file.
The prosecutor's office demanded that Sütçü be arrested on charge of "injury with arms" and "threat." However, he was released to house arrest by the Criminal Judgeship of Peace on January 3. (AÖ/SD)
