Results of Family and Child Education Research in Turkey have been announced.
According to the research, while 68% of Turkey believes children should be given education as to sexual abuse and what to do under such circumstances, and where to consult, only 10% percent is of the opinion that there is no need for education.
One in every two persons in the Black Sea
22% of the participants stated they have no idea about the subject.
In the research, one in every two persons (47%) in the Black Sea region said they don’t have any opinion with respect to whether children should be provided with such education.
“No need for education”
The region which is of the highest rate in saying there is no need for education is the Southeastern Anatolia Region with 32%.
Aegean favor education
The regions which are of the highest rate in favoring education are Aegean region with 93% and Central Anatolia Region with 88%.
Family or state?
65% of those favoring education thinks the education should be provided by public schools whereas the 31% believes it should be done by families at home.
The region which is of the highest rate in favoring family education is Southeastern Anatolia Region with 54%.
The region which is of the highest rate in favoring state education is Aegean region with 87%.
Declaration of the Rights of the Child
The research also presents data on an other issue.
Two out of every 10 persons in Turkey is aware of the United Nations Universal Declaration of the Rights of the Child.
The persons aware of the declaration are mostly in the regions of Marmara and Central Anatolia with 26%.
In Southeastern Anatolia, 98% of the persons who participated in the research have expressed that they had no knowledge of the declaration.
Turkey’s signature
56% of those who have heard of the declaration also know that Turkey has signed the declaration.
Aegean region is with 91% the region with the highest awareness followed by Marmara Region with 62%.
The age group with the highest awareness is with 65% between 15-17.
The research
In Turkey, the Family and Child Education Research has been run by Society for Consumer Research Turkey (GfK Turkey).
The research has been conducted on September and October 2015, on basis of face to face interviews with 1,237 persons above the age of 15 in 15 provinces in Turkey . (YY/DG)
