Hundreds of motorcycle couriers of Trendyol, one of the largest e-commerce companies in Turkey, have been protesting low wage rises.
The delivery workers of Trendyol Express gathered in İstanbul's Maltepe and Yenikapı squares in protest yesterday (January 25) and raised their requests, including a 50-percent wage increase and not dismissing the motorcycle couriers who have been seeking their rights.
In addition to the 50-percent pay rise, they requested that the second slot be removed and the mobbing faced by workers be eliminated.
Making a statement during the protest in Maltepe, Başaran Aksu from the Umut-Sen union briefly said:
"Trendyol; you reported a 600-percent growth rate last year. You reported a financial turnover of 16.5 billion dollars. You control 30 percent of Turkey's market. Thanks to whom do you do all these? With what conscience and morals and how dare you offer an 11-percent wage increase?
"What do you mean by 11 percent? That is what we rise up against, that is what we object and react to. No one can turn laborers into their poodles in Turkey. They wage this struggle with almost a hundred percent participation all across Turkey. We aim to resolve this issue tomorrow."
The protests in İstanbul were also supported by the delivery workers in İzmir, Samsun, Tekirdağ, Çorlu, Eskişehir, Bodrum and Diyarbakır.
