Writer and teacher Murat Özyaşar has been released after being detained for five days.
T24/K24 Editorial Director Sibel Oral announced the release of her husband, Murat Özyaşar on Twitter.
Winner of Yunus Nadi and Haldun Taner prizes, Özyaşar was taken into custody in a police raid on October 1 Saturday and then brought to Diyarbakır.
Özyaşar was brought to court this morning (October 7).
Teaching in Diyarbakır, Özyaşar was suspended from duty on September 20, 2016 by the Statutory Decree enacted following the Statutory Decree no.667, however, what Özyaşar is charged with is yet to be announced.
About Murat Özyaşar
Born in 1979 in Diyarbakır, Murat Özyaşar completed his primary education at Yahya Kemal Bayatlı School. He received education at Ergani Anatolia Teacher High School as a boarding student.
Graduating from Dicle University Education Faculty Department of Turkish Language and Literature, he taught in Diyarbakır suburbs and released the literature magazine “Hışt Hışt” with his students.
His stories were published in magazines of Varlık, Kitap-lık, Adam Öykü, Notos Öykü and İmge Öyküler. His first book Ayna Çarpması was published in 2008. This book was granted Yunus Nadi prize in 2009 and Haldun Taner prize in 2008.
Özyaşar and Sibel Oral had child three weeks ago. (ÇT/TK)
