Writer İhsan Eliaçık has started to be tried on charge of “propagandizing for the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK)” due to some of his articles published on Internet. Eliaçık is facing up to 7.5 years in prison.
In the first hearing held at İstanbul 26th Heavy Penal Court, the prosecutor in his dictum stated that Prime Ministry Communication Center (BİMER) received a complaint about Eliaçık’s article.
In the dictum, the prosecutor claimed that the aforementioned article tried to create a perception against the legitimate operations launched by state’s security forces against terrorists. The prosecutor stated in the dictum that “when defendant’s articles are considered in perspective, they ae such as to call for terrorist violence, call on people to armed resistance and insurgency”.
Eliaçık: Prosecutor wishes that I live in misery
Not having attended the hearing, Eliaçık tweeted:
“What is the purpose of the prosecutor who demands that I serve 10 years in prison for promoting terrorism and my deprivation of being president, MP, civil servant, party administrator, etc.?
“The prosecutor flew off the handle in the fourth hearing of the trial held yesterday; he says ‘May he serve 10 years in prison, let his penalty be increased, don’t let him elect or be elected, find party, foundation or association, profess, let him starve and live in misery”. (ŞA/TK)
