A group of women blocked Istanbul’s Bosporus Bridge this morning with a banner saying “Parliamentary motion and support to ISIS mean war and massacre of women. You don’t make peace that way”.
Blocking the traffic in two lanes for half an hour, the women were detained by the police and sent to Police Headquarters in Istanbul’s Vatan Avenue.
Among the 16 women detainees also included two lawyers.
"This motion means the invasion of Kobane"
“We opened up banners against the parliamentary motion allowing the military intervention in Syria and Iraq as well as ISIS. We are under detention right now. We have been transferred to a hospital in Haseki for our medical report. We will be sent back to the Police Headquarters on Vatan Avenue,” Züleyha Gülüm, one of the detained lawyers, told bianet.
Reminding that the parliament will hold talks on the motion today, Gülüm also added the following: “We are saying that this allowance will mean the invasion of Kobane [a Kurdish populated region in northern Syria] and it will violate the people’s will. Turkey’s invasion of territories abroad will not be a measure against ISIS but the the people and its will. We know that the war [in Kobane] is based on the massacre of women and ISIS abducts and rapes women. A new war caused by this motion will mean more massacres of women and rape.” (ÇT/BM)
