Bursa Women’s Platform held a press release for the five women textile workers who were killed in the fire at the factory owned by the Özer CBağımsız İletişim Ağı / Yeni Yazıompany on December 29, 2005.
Speaking on behalf of the Platform, textile worker Pervin Şahin asked, “The expert report had found the five workers at fault at the second degree. It says that the workers did not behave the way that would help maintain their health and safety. How can the workers who were killed in the fire be at fault? Would anyone knowingly cause his or her own death?”
“Why was the employer fined only 90 euro for the death of five workers? Is this how much the five women and an unknown child cost? We will not forget them.”
After the press release, the opening ceremony of the documentary that was made for the five workers was held at the Nilüfer Konak Culture House. (EZÖ/TB)
