Women from 13 countries have gathered and entered women profiles on Wikipedia within the scope of BBC 100 Women season.
Event’s Turkey leg took place in İstanbul. Profile pages of founder of Turkey’s first women museum Meral Akkent, the first editor-in-chief in mainstream Nurcan Akad, Turkey’s first open homosexual political Sedef Çakmak, Journalists’ Association of Turkey (TGC) Women Commission Coordinator Göksel Göksu, trans woman Hande Kader who was burned dead, activist and researcher Fatma Bostan Ünsal, and Esin Güneş who was killed by her divorced spouse that made it look like a suicide.
Women constitute only 17% of Vikipedi profiles.
The ratio of women Vikipedi editors is below 30%.

#100WomenWiki was a symbolic event to draw attention to gender inequality.
This year, prior to March 8 “Edit-a-thon” was organized in 75 venues in 17 countries. Architect and editor Yağmur Yıldırım had carried Art+Feminism’s event to İstanbul. Uçan Süpürge (Flying Broom) organized an Edit-a-thon in Ankara.
In order to document women history and change the balance in history writing that is always narrated from male perspective and male subjects, a constant effort of entering content without needing a special event is required. (ÇT/TK)
