Women rallied at İskele (Port) Square in Kadıköy district of İstanbul on Sunday. They all shouted “We need peace and negotiation for the solution of the problems instead of bombs while war doesn’t bring forward any solution and amplify miseries”.
The women carrying black banners written “1,000 Women Towards Peace” staged sit-in. Following the sit-in, peace messages written by women were read.
“In some cities the massacres, ongoing curfews, forced immigration; those who are declared criminal just for mentioning peace and calling the state to ‘stop the war’, escalating violence, escalating hatred…We don’t live in peace. We can’t breathe safely and freely”.
The “We will Dance the Halay with 1,000 Women Towards Peace Cheesecloth” act was the first event of campaign titled “We Favor Life, not Death! We Defend Our Right to Peace and Truth” launched by Women for Peace Initiative.
The number of signatories signing the call “1,000 Women Towards Peace” initiated on January 18 have exceeded 2,500.
The women will go keep watch in Turkey’s southeastern Diyarbakır province on February 6. (ÇT/TK)
