Three security guards sexually assaulted a woman from Iran named Z.M. in the Kurubaş Removal Center affiliated with the Provincial Immigration Authority in Turkey's eastern province of Van.
As reported by Mezopotamya Agency (MA), the incident happened on the night of July 22, 2020. After the lights were turned off in the center, three security guards entered the room of the woman and raped her.
A few days later, on July 26, Z.M. informed the Removal Center Director about the incident. Giving her statement to the Edremit Gendarmerie Command officers, the woman identified Y.V. and İ.H.K., two of the three men who had raped her. Interrogated by the gendarmerie officers, two security guards were referred to the Penal Court of Peace.
Both men have been arrested by the court on charge of "aggravated sexual assault" and sent to Van Type T Closed Prison.
While İ.H.K. reportedly dismissed the allegations as "aspersions", saying that "he was a person of loyalty to his homeland," Y.V. also rejected the allegations. There has been reportedly no bill of indictment lodged against the defendants yet. (RT/SD)
