Woman Sexually Assaulted in Metrobus, 'Had to Prove it to Police'

A man has been arrested after sexually assaulting a woman in Metrobus in İstanbul.

The woman published the video of the incident on social media, which shows her saying, "I won't be quiet, you'll be ashamed!"

While the man was detained by the police, the video went viral on social media.

"At first, I thought I felt like that because it's crowded"

The women spoke to bianet on the condition of anonymity as the legal investigation regarding the assault is continuing.

"It took a long time for me to understand the situation. At first, I thought, 'Maybe I feel like that because it is crowded. He was touching me all the time. And then I suddenly pushed the man and looked and saw the situation. He ejaculated on me at that moment," she said.

"I had to prove what happened to the cops"

She said a brawl began in the bus after that, while the man was defending himself claiming that he "urinated because of fear."

"When the police officers came, they were nice to me. They really helped. Then we went to the Avcılar Police Station. Then my two female lawyer friends came. The situation was very difficult. Because all of them were male cops and I tried to prove the situation to them," the woman added.

"I understand that, this is pee"

She said the police officers were unwilling to collect evidence from the suspect's body, as they approve his alibi that he urinated because of fear.

One police said, "I understand that, this is pee," according to the woman.

After four hours, they were able to make the police collect evidence from the suspect, with the help of the attorneys.

"Had there not been the female attorneys, they would release the guy," she claimed.

"We had to put pressure on the police"

Seher Erciş, an attorney for the woman, told bianet that they had to put pressure on the police to make them collect evidence.

"For a DNA test, the remnants should be collected from the man's clothes, and that can be collected from the clothes where the sperms spread on. But the police officers say, 'We can't perform this operation without an order from the prosecutor reaching us,'" Erciç said.

The attorney added, "We see that many perpetrators are released in similar cases. Because the men take courage from such verdicts." (EMK/VK)
