The winners of the "Ayşe Nur Zarakolu Freedom of Thought and Expression Award" which will be bestowed for the 15th time by the founders and executives of the Human Rights Foundation (İHD) this year in the name of Ayşe Nur Zarakolu have been announced.
This year's "Ayşe Nur Zarakolu Freedom of Thought and Expression Award" goes to imprisoned journalists Kadri Gürsel, Mehmet Altan, Ahmet Altan and İnan Kızılkaya, as well as Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) co-Chair Figen Yüksekdağ on behalf of arrested HDP MPs and to Sinan Zarakolu on behalf of Belge Publishing House, to İHD Mersin Office Chair Ali Tanrıverdi as well as to Confederation of Public Employees Trade Unions on behalf of the discharged academics and to the deceased journalist Nujiyan Erhan who was shot to death in Şengal.
The award ceremony will be held tomorrow (May 9) at 7 p.m. in İHD office.
Human rights advocate and the owner of Belge Publishing House Ayşe Nur Zarakolu passed away on January 28, 2002 suffering from cancer. (EA/HK/DG)
