The fire began in Karacaağaç neighborhood and then spread into Kayadibi and Taşlıca neighborhoods, causing damage to two houses. After affecting a 350-hectare area, the fire was partially brought under control this morning (July 11).
Homes in Kayadibi and Taşlıca were evacuated after the gendarmerie and Dalaman Forest Operations Management made announcements, DHA reported. People loaded their belongings and animals to trucks and tractors and left the villages. Two-hundred and fifty dogs and cats in an animal shelter were also evacuated as a precaution.
Yesterday's efforts to extinguish the fires were conducted with 350 personnel, 15 helicopters, 74 water tenders and six dozers. Helicopters worked until it is dark. People also assisted efforts with water tankers and garden hoses.
Bekir Pakdemirli, the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry made a statement to reporters, saying there are no casualties caused by the fire.
Esengül Civelek, the Governor of Muğla, Alim Karaca, the Mayor of Fethiye, and Muhammet Karakuş, the Mayor of Dalaman also went to the area.
A separate fire broke out at around 9 a.m. in Kıyıkışlacık nieghborhood in Milas, cause of which is not known yet, DHA reported. Efforts to extinguish the fire is continuing.
