Three most popular social media and instant messaging apps in Türkiye are WhatsApp, YouTube and Instagram, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute's (TurkStat) 2022 survey on internet usage in households.
Eighty-two percent of the people in the country use WhatsApp, 67.2 percent use YouTube, and 57.6 percent use Instagram, showed the survey results released yesterday (August 29).
Among men, however, Facebook replaces Instagram as the third most commonly used app, whereas the share of men using WhatsApp and YouTube is higher than women.
In the first three months of the year, 26.4 percent of the users purchased services from video streaming or download services, and 23.2 percent from music services.
Internet access
The share of households with internet access is 94.1 percent, up by 2.1 points compared to last year. İstanbul and the West Anatolia (Ankara, Konya, Karaman) are the regions with the highest rate of internet access, with 98.7 percent and 98.3 percent, respectively.
Eighty-five percent of the individuals in the 16-74 age group use the internet, compared to 82.6 percent in 2021.
In the first quarter of the year, 82.7 percent of all individuals, 86.9 percent of the men, and 78.6 percent of the women used the internet regularly.
Online shopping
Over 46 percent of the people bought goods or services online over the past 12 months, up by 1.9 points compared to the previous period.
49.7 percent of the men and 42.7 percent of the women shopped online.
Among those who shopped online in the first three months of the year, 71.3 percent ordered clothes, shoes and accessories, 50.2 percent ordered food from restaurants
The most purchased goods and services in the first three months of 2022 was clothing, shoes and accessories (71.3 percent), deliveries from restaurants, fast-food chains and catering services (50.2 percent), and food or beverages from stores (41.9 percent).
78.4 percent of the women and 64.7 percent of the men bought clothing, shoes and accessories online. (VK)
