Supreme Electoral Council of Turkey (YSK), answered the Transparency International’s information request about the violations of election law “We function constitutionally and we don’t offer consulting service.”
Transparency International has been running campaigns over June 7, 2015 general elections’ violations. On Apr.14, 2015 Sakarya provincial deputy candidates from AKP had been escorted by police cars and this news was exposed on the media. Hereupon, Transparency Organization requested information from YSK and inquired whether there would be an inspection on the case or not.
YSK answered the information request dated Apr. 22, 2015 “We don’t offer consulting service,” instead of giving information.
Özarslan: YSK ignores the constitutional duties
Oya Özarsalan, the Chair of Transparency International-Turkey, said YSK ignored its constitutional duties and evaded the question.
“Who will deal with the electoral fraud and violations of election law apart from YSK? In case that electoral silence has been violated, offenders will get away with it. YSK’s primary duty must provide an honest, fair and equal election.
Transparency International will report
Beginning from Apr. 7, 2015, Transparency International will follow the electoral violations and enlighten the public opinion and inform YSK with the purpose of information request. Transparency Organization will have reported all electoral violations and fraud on June 7. (EA/BD)
