What is peace journalism, which necessities have given birth to it, and what is its difference than other journalism types?
What about the obstacles before it? How will peace journalism be materialized in making news of armed conflict and political polarization situations, and multiple oppositions lived in daily life?
BİA education advisor Kadir Has University Faculty of Communication Dean Prof. Dr. Sevda Alankuş and Dr. Rukhsana Aslam from Auckland University of Tecnhology (AUT) in New Zealand have gathered to discuss over practices of peace journalism in media from Turkey, Pakistan and New Zealand, and its place in communication education.
The moderator will be Murat Çelikkan from Truth, Justice, Memory Center.
What are the factors that achieve success? What are the sources of the obstacles? How related are examples with each other in various places of the world? Aslam and Alankuş will address ethics, practice and journalism.

Sevda Alankuş |
Dean of Kadir Has University, Faculty of Communication. She graduated from Ankara University, Faculty of Political Science in 1980. She completed her MA and PHD degrees in the area of Political Science and Public Administration at the same university. She continued her academic studies at Leeds University in the years between 1988-89. She worked as academic at Ege and Ankara universities in the years between 1982-1999. She obtained the titles of Assoc. Prof. and Professor in the area of Communication Sciences. She worked as dean at Eastern Mediterranean University, Faculty of Communication and Media Studies in the years between 1999-2008, and İzmir University of Economy, Faculty of Communication in the years between 2008-2013. She is the education advisor for Independent Communication Network (BİA) as of 1998. She undertook editorship of most of 16 books published by IPS Foundation Publishing. Rukhsana Aslam |
She works as senior researcher at Pasific Media Center; peace journalism, media and conflict constitute her focus of research. She graduated from Punjab University, Department of English Literature and Department of Sociology. She carried on her English Literature MA program at the same university and received Master’s degree in are of International Journalism at City University in London. She worked for BBC, GEO TV and Pakistan’s most wide-spread newspaper in English, The News International, Rawalpindi until 2000. She served as head department of Faculty of Communication in Jinnah University and conducted the radio project of Voice of Women. She worked as head and advisor of media department in Hamrad and International Islam University in Pakistan. She did her PHD on peace journalism at Auckland University of Technology in 2014

One of the administrators of Truth, Justice, Memory Center. He has been doing studies on memory work and gross human rights violations.
He took part in human rights movement in Turkey following 1980 military coup. He worked at NGOs in addition to journalism. |

Project of “Manual and Virtual Library of Peace Journalism”
Three sessions were held with correspondents, editors, reader representatives, right groups representatives and academics. Online/printed manual is being prepared under the light of session discussions.
Prof. Dr. Sevda Alankuş has taken part as supervisor and manual editor, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İncilay Cangöz as library editor, and Begüm Zorlu as coordinator in the project.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Altuğ Akın has done newspaper scanning and reported it with İzmir University of Economy, Faculty of Economy students Ayşenur Ölmezses Şentürk, Aslı Sayat, Begüm Yalçınkaya, Emre Ocaklı, Özge Sarı and Özgür Akşakar.
