We Celebrate New Year of 30 Imprisoned Colleagues; You?

If no change happens in the next 20 days, 30 journalists will enter the year of 2016 in prison.

We, as bianet have considered sending books as new year gift to our imprisoned journalist companions. We compiled and packed the books sent from bianet-friendly publishers over 2015.

That was the easy part, the hard part began later. How many journalists are in prison and what are their addresses?

We’d published the latest media monitoring report on October 19, 2015. From that day on, pressure on media had increased and new journalists sent to prison.

The list was updated, then proceeded to updating the addresses. Our friend Leyla İşbilir confirmed the addresses by calling prison administrations one by one.

In order to find the ones who were not in their addresses, information gathered from their last workplaces, lawyers, and trade bodies.

Addresses of the 30 journalists were confirmed.

We are sending the books sent from 25 publishers.
