IPS Communication Foundation/bianet hosted Ekosfer Association in the eleventh meeting of its series aimed at strengthening civil society, establishing consistent communication channels, and enhancing opportunities for collaboration with NGOs working in human rights, gender equality, women’s rights, LGBTI+ rights, migrant/refugee issues, labor, ecology, disability rights, law, and media.
At the meeting held at Atölye BİA, bianet was represented by Murat İnceoğlu, Tuğçe Yılmaz, and Ali Dinç.
Ekosfer Association’s Campaign Director, Özgür Gürbüz, participated in the meeting and shared information about their work.
“Our goal is to mobilize people”
Özgür Gürbüz explained that Ekosfer Association was established five years ago by journalists and communicators to draw attention to the climate crisis, facilitate communication on the issue, and mobilize people.
He emphasized their active use of social media for this purpose and said, “We publish reports, collect data, and make the data more understandable so that it can be widely used in accessible platforms.”
Gürbüz described the main aim of Ekosfer Association as follows:
“Our primary goal is to stop the climate crisis. Specifically, we focus on energy issues, but above all, we strive to improve climate communication to mobilize people.”
Access to all data from a single source
Discussing their activities since the association’s founding, Gürbüz said, “We’ve published various reports and organized training sessions. We provided Climate Journalism training to about 200 journalists and journalism students. We’ve also worked on compiling data about nuclear energy and coal. Through a website like kömür.org in Turkey, you can access comprehensive data on all coal plants, from their legal status to electricity production.”
Gürbüz noted that they are expanding their efforts and stated, “We are preparing a website where you can access all the data from a single source.”
He concluded by mentioning that they also update and share data with their followers through their social media accounts.
