A campaign has been launched to make the conditions in the wards for arrested students in Antalya L-type Prison to “return to normal”.
In the petition text it has been noted that “the arrested students were being exposed to suppression and lockdown for a long time”.
38 persons in wards for seven
In the petition, it has been pointed out, that 38 persons were staying in the each ward.
Yet, according to the information notice from the Ministry of Justice which also applies for Antalya L-type Prison, the shared living space is regulated for seven persons.
Books restricted, letters “lost”
It has also been reported that social and sports activities were being hindered in the prison. The conditions of the prisoners have been specified as follows:
* The books sent to the prisoners have been seized by the prison administration and a limit to seven books has been imposed.
* The letters are not being delivered arbitrarily.
* Ill prisoners are being exposed to examination with handcuffs and the ones who oppose the practice do not get any treatment.
* Warm water is being served two days in a week for two hours each and the needs of taking a bath, washing clothes and cleaning are not met.
* The visiting hours determined to be one hour long according to the regulations is shortened to 45 minutes. Some visitors are not being allowed arbitrarily.
* The petitions of the prisoners expressed to have written down the difficulties they had been experiencing, remain unanswered.
Violence among prisoners
According to the explanations of the arrested students, political prisoners who have demanded to stay in the same ward over being put in the same ward with other prisoners during transportation, were exposed to violence by soldiers due to their request.
The prisoners who would have a hearing on the same day; Mehmet Şeran, Deniz Yıldız and Şeyhmus Çelik have been exposed to violence in the ring vehicles and Ömer Yaşar, Fırat Göktepe, Ramazan Memiş, Rezan Cengiz in the hospital. (AS/DG)
