Warrant has been issued for four academics who held contact meeting on March 10 as to incidents taking place since they released the declaration entitled “We will not be a party to this crime”.
Esra Mungan from Boğaziçi University, Kıvanç Ersoy from Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts, and two academics who were fired after signing the declaration; Muzaffer Kaya (Nişantaşı University) and Meral Camcı (İstanbul Yeniyüzyıl University) stating in their declaration that actions are being taken for investigations without determining on which bases the charges are leaned upon, had said they were insistent on their peace demand.
The academics whose houses were visited by police officers at around 9:30 a.m. couldn’t be seized as they were absent. The academics went to İstanbul Security Directorate on Vatan street with their lawyers at around 2 p.m. They are expected to appear before prosecution at İstanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan after identification.
Education and Science Laborers Union İstanbul No.6 Universities Branch President, Görkem Doğan informing bianet told that they learned that the academics are being indicted for “promoting terror organization, acting upon instructions of the organization”.

The academics had listed the steps they would take as follows:
We will not leave our friends being subjected to criminal prosecution alone, and track the trials in solidarity
Starting from next week, we will be at academic watch in Sur and in other regions ruined
We will continue to expose the universities, which laid off signees of Peace for Academics’ declaration, by holding street lectures in front of them. (BK/TK)
