Addressing his Parliamentary question to Minister of Justice Abdulhamit Gül, Kaçmaz has reminded that the inmates have been on a hunger strike since November 12 against ill treatment and violation of rights:
"Prisoners have said that they are deprived of their legal rights, they are forced to be counted on foot and when they protest it and similar practices, investigations are launched against them, they are battered by wardens.
"When ill inmates are taken to hospital, they are examined in handcuffs. When they reject it, they are sent back to prison without being treated.
"Stating that wardens insult them by looking at their family photos and their newspapers are not given to them in any way, the inmates have announced it to the public throught their families that they will continue their hunger strike if these right violations persist."
'Will you take any action to end hunger strikes?'
Şırnak MP Kaçmaz has asked the following questions to Minister Gül:
* Are you, as the Ministry of Justice, informed about the these violations of rights at the Osmaniye No. 2 Type T Prison and the hunger strike protest staged by the inmates?
* On what grounds are these arbitrary practices based?
* What is the explanation for the failure to give inmates newspapers and the insults thrown at them by wardens by looking at their family photos?
* Has any investigation or inspection that can bear penal consequences been launched against the prison administration and personnel who have the lives of inmates harder by subjecting them to arbitrary practices?
* Will you take any action to end the hunger strikes and to meet their demands? (AS/SD)
