After the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has objected to the unofficial local election results in the capital city of Ankara, the votes cast for the Metropolitan Mayorship of Ankara will be counted again in 11 districts.
As reported by the state-run Anadolu Agency (AA), the votes cast in the following districts will be recounted: Polatlı, Çubuk, Pursaklar, Altındağ, Gölbaşı, Şereflikoçhisar, Keçiören, Sincan, Bala, Çankaya and Çamlıdere.
After the General Local Elections held on March 31, 2019, the votes cast for the Metropolitan Mayorship of İstanbul are also being counted again in 18 districts of İstanbul. While invalid votes are being recounted in 15 districts, all votes are being recounted in 3 districts.
Accordingly, in the district election boards of Küçükçekmece, Beyoğlu, Başakşehir, Maltepe, Büyükçekmece, Çekmeköy, Eyüp, Fatih, Tuzla, Sarıyer, Ataşehir, Beykoz, Şile, Bayrampaşa and Ümraniye, invalid votes cast for Metropolitan Mayorship are being counted again.
In the districts of Çatalca, Silivri and Kartal in İstanbul, all votes cast for the Metropolitan Mayorship are being counted again.
CHP contradicts the AA news on Ankara
Though the AA has reported that votes cast for the Metropolitan Mayorship of Ankara will be recounted in 11 districts, Vice Chair of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Muharrem Erkek has denied the news.
On his personal Twitter account, Muharrem Erkek has stated,
"AA is still as we know it, it is still on duty. The news that votes are being recounted in 11 districts of Ankara is fabricated. In the vast majority of these districts, the counting has already been done and completed. Why is it presented as recent news?"
CHP: 21 İstanbul districts to recount votes
CHP Spokesperson Faik Öztrak also made statement regarding the recounting of votes in İstanbul earlier today (April 4). Speaking on a TV program, Öztrak stated that a total of 21 districts will recount the votes, with five of them conducting a full recount and others recounting the invalid votes.
