Musabaka Village headperson Ahmet Yılmaz in Düzce was arrested for allegedly not letting village imam, Adem Çapa to recite sala on July 15 night.
Yılmaz is reportedly arrested on charge of “promoting coup”.
Yılmaz being detained upon imam Çapa’s complaint has been arrested on dictum that “he prevented people from coming together by not letting the imam recite sala”.
Attorney Meriç Eyüboğlu remarking there is no crime such as “promoting coup”, stated that the arrests related to the coup attempt might be carried out with respect to Turkish Penal Law (TCK) Article 309, which regulates the crime of “violating the Constitution”:
“We know that nine youths objecting against the AKP (Justice and Development Party) taking it to the street upon the call made on Sunday in Hopa have been arrested on ground of TCK Article 309, which is the crime ‘attempting to annihilate the constitutional order or replace this order with another or practically preventing it from functioning’ in the Constitution.
“Vast majority of the arrests carried out in this period will probably be made based on this article and this article prescribes aggravated life imprisonment”. (ÇT/TK)
