Vice Prime Minister Veysi Kaynak has declared that the matter of conferring citizenship to the Syrians will considered after April 16, which is the date of constitutional amendment referendum.
“We don’t want to overshadow the April 16”, Kaynak said.
Kaynak stated that around 80,000 Syrians from different cities have been established at the first stage, and that the governorships informed that Ministry of Interior of these families.
Governor Şahin: The files are in Ankara
Stating that conferring citizenship to the Syrians in İstanbul has already begun, İstanbul Governor Vasip Şahin announced that files concerning 2,000 Syrians have been sent to capital city of Ankara.
“As many as 540,000 Syrians reside in İstanbul. The files for 2,000 qualified families of those have been sent to the ministry.
“The ministry will decide to whether confer citizenship”.
On July 2016, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had said studies were being conducted for the Syrian refugees to become citizens of Republic of Turkey. (YY/TK)
