Vedat Türkeli will be interred on September 1.
The statement delivered by the Ayrıntı Publications announced that the funeral of Türkali will be held at the Teşvikiye Mosque in the afternoon on September 1 “International Day of Peace”.
The statement added that Türkali’s body will be buried in the Zincirlikuyu Cemetery following the funeral and that a memorial will be held with the participation of his friends, family and publishers.
About Vedat Türkali
Vedat Türkali whose real name is Abdülkadir (Demirkan) Pirhasan was born in Samsun on May 13, 1919.
He completed his high school education in Samsun. He graduated from the İstanbul University, Turkish Language and Literature at Faculty of Literature in 1942.
He married Merih Pirhasan in the same year.
Türkali serving as literature teacher at Maltepe and Kuleli Military High School received imprisonment of nine years on charge of “political act” in 1951 and that was released on probation at the end of his seventh year. He was a member of the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP).
He found Gar Publications with Rıfat Ilgaz in 1960.
He started script writing with the movie Dolandırıcılar Şahı in 1960. He won Best Screenplay at the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival with his movie “Karanlıkta Uyananlar”.
He became an MP candidate from the Democratic People’s Party (DEHAP) in 2002 and actively participated in politics. (NV/TK)
