Vaccination efforts in Turkey: 335 thousand doses in a day

The number of coronavirus vaccine doses administered in a day is announced as 335,183, bringing the total number to over 52 million. Turkey will not administer the second dose to the ones who had COVID-19 and whose first vaccine shot was BioNTech.

Since January 26, 2021, the Health Ministry of Turkey has been sharing the number of COVID-19 vaccines administered across the country on a provisional basis with a regularly updated map.

According to the data shared by the Ministry, as of 7.45 p.m. on July 4, 335 thousand 183 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, either that of Sinovac or Pfizer-BioNTech, were administered in Turkey in 24 hours.

While the number of people who received the first dose was 35 million 889 thousand 368 in total, the number of people who received both doses was 15 million 663 thousand 209 in total. The total number of vaccine doses administered thus far was 52 million 620 thousand 485.

3rd doses administered

In Turkey, healthcare workers and the ones aged 50 and over are vaccinated with a third shot. The third dose is administered three months after the second dose of the vaccine was administered.

Since June 25, 2021, the COVID-19 vaccination appointment system has been open for people aged 18 and over.

No second dose

On the other side, the Ministry of Health has decided that the people who recovered from COVID-19 and whose first coronavirus vaccine shot was BioNTech will not be administered the second dose.

As reported by the state-run Anadolu Agency (AA), the people who had the disease have been sent an SMS, saying:

"In line with the Science Board decision indicating that a single dose of a BioNTech vaccine will be enough for the ones who had the disease, your appointment for the second dose has been cancelled."

Vaccination began in Turkey on January 13

The first COVID-19 vaccine was administered in Turkey on January 13, 2021 and Health Minister Fahrettin Koca was the first person to receive the vaccine in Turkey. To date, Turkey has been giving the Sinovac and BioNTech jabs, and signed an agreement for the Sputnik V vaccine.

According to the figures shared by the World Health Organization (WHO), 2,950,104,812 doses of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccines were administered across the world as of July 1, 2021.
