Law on Meetings and Demonstrations was changed in accordance with the internal security package.
According to the new regulation, “covering face, wearing uniform-like clothes, shouting spesific slogans” during a protest are forbidden” and police will decide which slogans can be shouted. People are expected to “help law enforcement officers” and if not “police have the right to use pressurized and colored water against them”.
Along with new regulation, these changes can be seen:
“Daily life” criteria
It was stated in the regulation that the local administrative chief may decide the place where the protests are made and the permissions of political parties, mayors, three trade unions and public officials and representatives are needed for it.
Protest places will be determined in a way that public order, general security and daily life aren’t distorted.
Using force without a warning
If a meeting or a protest starts in a peaceful way but turn into an illegitimate meeting or a protest, security chiefs may disperse the crowd by using force and if the crowd counterattacks, security units use force without a warning according to the new regulation.
The Police have the right to record
“During a meeting or a demonstration, law enforcement officers may record picture and sound of protesters, speakers and participants. Acquired images and records cannot be used other than identifying perpetrators and criminal evidence.” (AS/BD)
