US Department of State Spokesperson John Kirby has stated that they did not consider PYD (Democratic Union Party) a terrorist group and will keep supporting it.
On his daily press conference Kirkby has been asked about President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s words from his conversation with the journalists on the plane back from his overseas journey quoted “Am I your partner or the terrorists in Kobani?”
“PYD is one of the most successful forces in the fight against ISIS
Saying “Nothing could change our close relationship to Turkey and our efforts to enhance it”, Kirkby has noted;
“Even friends may not agree on everything. We are friends with Turkey but may not always be on the same page.
“We understand Turkey’s concerns about PYD. But PYD is one of the most successful forces in the fight against ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria). We don’t consider them a terrorist organization and will keep supporting them”.
“Meeting with Polat Can was not planned ahead”
On the press conference, US President Barack Obama’s Special Delegate, Brett McGurk going to Kobani and meeting Polat Can has been brought to agenda.
Kirby has noted that McGurk meeting Polat Can had been a coincidence and said “Him meeting this person had not been planned ahead, he was representing Kurdish fighters there”. (EKN/DG)
