Representatives of the Urfa Bar Association and the Diyarbakır Regional Representative of the Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey (DİSK) visited the Şenyaşar family in front of the Urfa courthouse on the 275th day of their justice watch yesterday (December 8).
Emine Şenyaşar lost her spouse and two sons in an attack by the security guards and relatives of ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız in Urfa. She and her son Ferit Şenyaşar, who survived the attack, have been seeking justice since then.
As reported by Mezopotamya Agency (MA), lawyers from the Urfa Bar Association Lawyer Kazım Ekinci Human Rights Central Commission and Bar Chair Velat İzol expressed their support for the family during their visit on the occasion of December 10 Human Rights Day.
Nahide Polat, the Chair of the Urfa Bar's Human Rights Center, said, "We reiterate our promise that we support the watch, we will stand with the family to the end and we will do our share in legal support."
'Open the file for inspection'
Urfa Bar Chair İzol stated that the struggle waged by the Şenyaşar family gave hope to everyone awaiting justice:
The honorable stance of Emine Şenyaşar has become the voice and hope of everyone who is awaiting justice in all segments of society. We, as the Urfa Bar Association, reiterate our call to the investigating authorities: We demand that necessary statements be made so that the file can be brought to light and the file be opened for the inspection of the parties as soon as possible. We also reiterate that we will stand with Emine Şenyaşar until this justice watch comes to an end.
Ferit Şenyaşar extended his thanks to the representatives of the Urfa Bar Association for not leaving them alone.
DİSK: Injustice must come to an end
Members of the DİSK Diyarbakır Representative also visited the Şenyaşar family. Hasar Eroğlu, the Head of the Representative, underlined that it was not possible to accept unlawfulness and injustice.
Making a call for justice, Eroğlu said, "This request has not yet been met. The family has been awaiting justice for 275 days. Injustice must end as soon as possible. Everything is apparent and concrete. The expectations of the family and the public have to be met."
Eroğlu stated that they were on the side of the family to the end.
Ferit Şenyaşar then gave information about the obstacles to their struggle for justice. Ferit Şenyaşar said, "What keeps us going is the visits. We will keep on being here until the day justice is served."
What happened?
During the election campaign of ruling AKP Urfa MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız in Suruç, Urfa on June 14, 2018, an attack turned into an armed conflict, which claimed the lives of Yıldız's brother Mehmet Şah Yıldız, shop owner Hacı Esvet Şenyaşar and his sons Adil and Celal Şenyaşar.
Having lost his father and two brothers and been wounded himself in the incident, Fadıl Şenyaşar was discharged from hospital and detained on June 17. He was then arrested and sent to prison.
Demanding justice for two sons, husband and her arrested son, Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit Şenyaşar, who survived the attack, have been keeping a "justice watch" in front of the courthouse.
There has been a confidentiality order on the file of the investigation into the attack for 3 years, 3 months. The second appeal of the Şenyaşar family against the "confidentiality" order on the investigation into the second attack at the Suruç Public Hospital was rejected on April 21, 2021.
The Constitutional Court, to which the family appealed, has not yet given its decision. One of the demands raised by the family on their justice watch is the removal of this "confidentiality" order. (KÖ/SD)
