Meral Tutcalı, a freshman in university shared an entry with Governor Hüseyin Avni Coş’s photo saying “Governor Hüseyin Avni Coş declared his autonomy. He’s even more bombastic than President Erdoğan,” on Zaytung (a mock news portal in Turkey). She has received one year imprisonment.
The Court delayed to give a verdict since Tutcalı has no previous conviction.
According to the news of Hilal Köse from Cumhuriyet Daily Newspaper, university student’s home was raided by police twice.
Governor Coş took serious the funny entry and filed a complaint against Tutcalı.
Adana 22nd Criminal Court of First Instance committed Tutcalı for one year in prison. She was found guilty for insulting public officer. The punishment was reduced to 10 months. The Court delayed to give a verdict since Tutcalı has no previous conviction.
Meral Tutcalı’s lawyer said they would raise an objection.
Tutcalı said: “I think this decision is a part of oppression and intimidation policy but I don’t deserve this. I still have the hope for a bright future.
A Governor who said “pimp” to a citizen
On 10 November 2013, former Adana Governor Hüseyin Avni Coş said “pimp” to a citizen who protested him. Governor first denied and said: “I didn’t say “pimp” to that citizen, I said pipe.” Coş, then accepted that he used bad language on 12 November.
A journalist, Hakan Gülseven, paid 7000 Turkish Lira as penalty because he published the news over pimp dialogue in Yurt newspaper.
