The University Chancellor Elections have been lifted by the Statutory Decree No. 676 issued on October 29 by the Ministerial Cabinet.
According to the new regulation, "In state universities, the President appoints the University Chancellor among three candidates proposed by the Council of Higher Education who have served as a professor at least for three years.
The chancellor position is limited to four years. Those whose service time has expired can be appointed again the same way.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had earlier stated "abandoning the current practice in chancellor appointments will be beneficial for our country". (HK/DG)
