The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) has announced the unemployment rate in October as 11.6 percent.
In October, the number of the unemployed rose by 501 thousand compared to the same month last year and became 3 million 788 thousand. The unemployment rate reached 11.6 percent, increasing by 1.3 points.
Non-agricultural unemployment rate in the same period increased by 1.3 points and reached 13.6 percent.
Youth (ages of 15 and 24) unemployment rate increased by 3 points and became 22.3 percent. Among those aged between 15 and 64, the unemployment rate increased by 1.4 points and became 11.9 percent.
Labor force participation rate increased
The labor force increased by 726 thousand and became 32 million 685 thousand and the labor force participation rate became 53.7 percent with a 0.6-point increase compared to the same period last year.
Labor force participation rate for women increased by 0.6 points and became 34.8 percent. For men, their participation rate increased by 0.6 points and became 73 percent.
Employment rate decreased
The number of employees in October increased by 225 thousand people and reached 28 million 870 thousand. Employment rate became 47.5 percent with a 0.1-point increase.
The number of employees in agricultural sector decreased by 187 thousand while the number of non-agricultural employees increased by 414 thousand.
18.5 percent of the employees were employed in agricultural sector, 19.7 percent in industrial sector, 6.7 percent in construction sector and 55 percent in service sector.
Unregistered employees
In October 2018, rate of employees without any social insurance decreased by 0.2 points and became 33.7 percent, compared to the same period in the previous year.
The rate of unregistered employees in the non-agricultural sector increased by 0.6 points and became 22.4 percent. (HA/VK)
