The United Nations has decided to convene upon the call by Minister of Foreign Affairs of France Jean-Yves Le Drian following Turkey launching military campaign into Afrin.
The meeting will be held today (January 22).
In his statement to the journalists, Le Drian described the risks posed by the campaign as “very serious” and wrote on his Twitter account that “the sides have to end the conflict and humanitarian aid must be provided to the region”.
NATO: Countries Have Right to Defend Themselves
Initial statement from the NATO has been issued by an “official”. Concerning the Operation Olive Branch, the official said, “All countries have right to defend themselves”, and added that Turkey notified NATO countries.
The official said that NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg frequently contacts authorities from Turkey. Stoltenberg had a phone meeting with President and Justice and Development Party (AKP) Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan last Tuesday. (EKN/TK)
