United Nations (UN) Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Syria Ali Al-Za’tari has announced that hundreds of civilians lost in their lives in attacks launched on Afrin and Ghouta, and tens of thousands of civilians have had to abandon their homes.
According to the statement issued by the UN, as many as 100 thousand people left Afrin resulting by Turkey’s offensive targeting the city, 75 thousand of them went to Tal Refaat and the remaining ones headed towards Nubul, Zahraa and surrounding villages.
In its statement, the UN also gave the information that all 16 schools in Tal Refaat have been assigned to the civilians, resulting in the interruption of education.
Approximately 25 thousand civilians left Eastern Ghouta since March 11 and these sites have exceeded their capacity, the statement added.
Al-Za’tari has called on the UN member countries to give support in providing supplies and funding. (ŞA/TK)
