A two-year-old child who was taken to the state hospital in Beylikdüzü, İstanbul, after falling off a balcony, lost her life on Tuesday (September 6).
A medical report obtained by bianet says the preliminary autopsy of the child showed "strong findings indicate that the child was raped."
The autopsy report says the child was killed because of falling from the balcony.
However, Beylikdüzü State Hospital doctors who spoke to bianet on the condition of anonymity said the report was not accurate.
Family didn't want an autopsy
Dr. Evren Arslan, an emergency medicine specialist at the hospital, said, "The child was brought to the hospital. Her family said, 'She fell off the balcony.' First aid was given to the child accordingly.
"Then, when looked in detail, tears were seen in the two-year-old child's vaginal area and bottom. This [finding] was included in the second general examination report.
"After this situation was understood, the hospital police stepped in. a prosecutor came and the men in the child's family were detained.
"The family of the child said all the time that they didn't want an autopsy ad they wanted to take the body and leave immediately. From now on, it's the prosecutor's job.
"The father's family were extremely barefaced. There was no sign of sadness in any of them. They insisted [the doctors] to write 'she was killed after falling off' in the report.
"They gathered many people at the hospital because they did not want an autopsy to be carried out on the baby. They resisted so that an autopsy would not be performed. The police forcibly dispersed these people."
"When the family wanted to take the child's body and leave immediately, we said there was a 'suspicious situation.' They said she fell on a beanpole. They said the only eyewitness was her five-year-old sister. We are very worried about her, too.
"I think this child should be taken from them and put under the protection of the social services immediately. I've been a doctor for so many years, yet I have never seen such cruelty.
"The evidence says it was not a onetime incident of rape. I think this child had been raped for a long time." (EMK/VK)
