Two Reporters Jailed in Southeast Nusaybin
Suleyman Tekin, the general manager of the newspapers, was arrested on August 31, for participating in a protest staged while the body of a killed Syrian PKK militant was being carried to Syria through Nusaybin.
Two officials of the local newspaper are arrested
According to Arif Altunkaynak, a reporter for the Anatolia News Agency, the Nusaybin Prosecutor, who has examined the latest editions of the newspaper, ordered the confiscation of the September 13, 2005 edition.
The prosecutors demand Dogan's arrest, accusing him of "disseminating propaganda in favor of the PKK" and "praising the offense and the offender." The reporter was arrested on September 13, and sent to the Mardin E-type prison.
Eight people, including Nazim Kok, the Nusaybin provincial head of the Democratic People's Party (DEHAP), were arrested on August 31, as they carried the body of a Syrian militant to the Nusaybin border crossing. The militant was killed by the security forces in the Macka district of Trabzon.
Reporter Tekin was sent to the Nusaybin prosecutor's office after making a deposition at the police station. Eight people were also arrested for the same reason. (EO/EA/YE)
