“Peace Journalism: A New Ethics, Practice and Education in Journalism” organized by IPS Communication Foundation, and Truth, Justice, Memory Center meeting started with the video Murat Utku prepared for the “Peace Journalism” presentation.
Utku had prepared the video for his presentation titled “Peace Journalism” he gave at “From School to Newsroom” (OHO) program organized by bianet for Faculty of Communication students on the dates between July 26-31.
Utku had done exercise as to peace journalism by going out to street with his TV journalist colleagues, Işıl Sarıyüce and Akın Depecik.
They approached with two different perspectives on a single news made in an ordinary Saturday in İstanbul; one of the perspectives reflects peace journalism, and the other doesn’t. They shared the differences between two perspectives with the participant journalist candidates.
Işıl Sarıyüce made a news in compliance with peace journalism using peace journalism terminology on the same images at İstiklal Street. On the other hand, Murat Utku made a news using a terminology which we face every day directed at establishing state order.
The differences between the two news manifest why “peace journalism” is necessary. (MU/IS/TK)
