The Disaster and Management Authority (AFAD) has announced that a 5.6-magnitude earthquake occurred in the district of Karlıova in Turkey's eastern province of Bingöl at 9.51 a.m. today (June 15).
Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute affiliated with Boğaziçi University has announced the magnitude as 5.5.
While the earthquake was also felt in the neighboring Çat district of Erzurum, the AFAD has noted that the earthquake happened at a depth of 7.01 kilometers while the Kandilli has said that it happened 5.5 kilometers deep.
Another moderate earthquake yesterday
Another moderate earthquake hit Bingöl province yesterday (June 14). As announced by the AFAD, the magnitude of the earthquake that shook the Kaynarpınar village of Karlıova, Bingöl at 5.24 p.m. was 5.7.
According to the Kandilli Observatory, the magnitude of the earthquake was 5.8 and it happened at a depth of 5 kilometers. The Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute also announced that 3.5 to 4.6-magnitude aftershocks hit the province following this earthquake.
Making a statement about the earthquake, the AFAD has indicated that one person, a village guard, was trapped under debris and lost his life.
14 houses and one stable were damaged by the earthquake and eight civilian citizens were injured, five in Elmalı village of Yedisu district, two in Dinarbey village and one in Karlıova Kaynarpınar village.
Yesterday's earthquake in Bingöl was also felt in the neighboring provinces of Erzurum, Trabzon, Erzincan, Kars, Batman, Diyarbakır, Siirt, Mardin, Elazığ, Dersim and Malatya. (RT/HA/SD)
