Two journalists were detained yesterday (March 26) while covering a gathering outside the home of a theologian who was attacked a day before.
Cemil Kılıç said on Twitter on Saturday that he was attacked by a group of men, who beat him with sticks. He shared a photo of him showing his mouth bleeding.
Yesterday, members of the Eğitim-Sen teachers' union gathered outside his home to read out a statement for the press about the incident.
Meanwhile, another group verbally harassed them. After a while, one of them began walking toward them while chanting slogans.
Intervening in the incident, the police detained Özgür Avcu, a reporter for the Toplumsal news portal, and Sercan Yılmaz, a camera operator. The journalists were slightly injured during the detention.
