The police detained two people in the investigation as part of an investigation into the broadcast of "Bella Ciao" song from several mosques in İzmir.
Banu Ö. was detained for "publicly degrading religious values" as per Article 216/3 of the Turkish Penal Code and released upon judicial control measures, İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced yesterday (May 21).

Another person was also released upon judicial control measures after being taken into custody, according to the prosecutor's office.
President of Religious Affairs Ali Erbaş said that "the incident in the holy month of Ramadan hurt all Muslims" and that they would "pursue the matter until the end."
On Wednesday (May 20), the Turkish version of the "Bella Ciao," a protest folk song in Italian, blared from several mosques in the western İzmir province. (EKN/VK)
